A subtle brow lift with Botox

A tired look is often not caused by poor sleep, but by the way eyebrows slowly sag slightly. It is a change that happens so gradually that you only really notice it yourself in photos. "I always look tired, even when I’m not" is a comment I hear regularly in my practice. For those people, a brow lift with Botox can be a surprisingly simple solution.

How it works

Your eyebrows move due to a balance between different muscles. The frontalis, the large muscle in your forehead, pulls the eyebrows upward. The muscle around your eye (the orbicularis oculi) and the small muscles between your eyebrows (corrugator and procerus) pull them downward. Due to aging, facial expressions, and gravity, that balance becomes disrupted. The downward-pulling muscles literally gain the upper hand.

With a few precisely placed Botox injections, I can temporarily relax those downward-pulling muscles. As a result, the frontalis is allowed to "win" again, and the eyebrow lifts along by itself by a few millimeters.

What it delivers

The effect is usually subtle yet noticeable: calmer forehead skin, more open eyes, and a more rested appearance. It is important to emphasize: this is not a full eyebrow lift as performed surgically. It involves a few millimeters, and the effect lasts three to four months. But in many cases, that is exactly what people are looking for.

Who it is less suitable for

Not everyone benefits from this treatment. For people with a significant amount of excess upper eyelid skin, a lift of a few millimeters is often not enough to make a real difference. The same applies to a drooping upper eyelid (ptosis), where the cause lies in the eyelid itself and not in the position of the eyebrow. In such cases, a surgical solution is usually more effective. Therefore, during a consultation, I always first carefully examine the source of the tired look before determining which treatment is right for you. In conclusion

A brow lift with Botox is a good example of what injectables can be when used with knowledge of facial anatomy: not a change to your face, but a slightly fitter version of your own look.
